Can you see him? He is right in the centre of the picture. This week we also had a vivid red and blue parakeet type bird in the garden! Sorry I was not quick enough to snap a photo, but I'm keeping my eyes peeled for another sighting.
Aw, he's cute! I love seeing wildlife in the garden, frogs, hedgehogs, bats even! Good luck catching a snapshot of the red and blue bird, sounds gorgeous!
Still looking out for the mysterious red bird! Been spotted in the allotments at the back of our house, where there is obviously a lot of food. It would be nice to find a way of reuniting it with its owner, who may be missing it. Hope the local cats/magpies don't get it.
When I was a child in the sixties, we kept two budgies, who escaped from their cage somehow. My mother put it outside one Sunday in the summer, so they could feel the sun on their feathers. She forgot to bring the cage in before we went out for the day. When we came home, they had flown away. We have no idea how they escaped through the bars. No stray feathers on the ground or damage to the cage. No hint of violent capture.
For a long time, I looked up to the sky, hoping to see a speck of bright blue or green flying about and enjoying the freedom.
I read recently that there are lots of wild parakeets, possibly tens of thousands in Greater London but I've not spotted one in my garden yet! Apparently they originaly come from the foothills of the Himalayas so don't need very hot climates, just a good food supply.

Oh dear, last time we had a baby parakeet/parrot-like bird in the garden the cats ate it! I was mortified.

I wonder what the bird is?! You'll have to keep the camera poised and ready.
What a sad story, Joanna. We kept canaries when I was young, and I can't imagine how we'd have coped if we'd lost them.
