Flying the flag
The bull outside Birmingham's Bullring shopping centre has a snazzy new outfit...
Is anyone planning to see the Olympic flame as it travels round the country? At one point it passes just a couple of streets from us. The only sport I ever watch is tennis, but it seems a shame not to see the torch relay when it's coming so close. The catch is, it visits here shortly after 7a.m. Am I unpatriotic for thinking that's a tiny bit early for me to get out of bed on a Sunday morning?

It did look nice going over the Clifton Bridge yesterday. (Torch, not bull.)
I can't be bothered to see the torch. It comes within 7 miles of me, but the thought of joining the crowds... Just, no. I don't think it's unpatriotic; indeed, I'm quite excited about London 2012, considering the only sport I follow properly is tennis. Maybe I'm just antisocial!
There are many good and valid reasons for being anti-social! I wouldn't fight through crowds to see it, to be honest, but I can't imagine there'll be masses of people that early on a Sunday. I may be wrong, of course!
Love the bull! Our local high school mascot is the Toro, so I'm partial. Go see the torch! I bet you'll be glad you did.

It does seem a bit of an effort - but if I don't go, I'll be cross with myself for missing the opportunity. There's always the chance that there might be a story in it too!
I missed the torch in our town, but got stuck in the traffic instead. I sat in the boiling-hot car in a closed road because I was hoping it wouldn't be long before they reopened it. And half-an-hour later I was still there, waiting! But I had a book with me and had a lovely time reading and thinking and writing in my head. I also enjoyed watching all the excited children and happy, hot people walking back from all I'd missed!
I love the bull. He really looks magnificent.
Oh dear! That's the trouble, when they close the roads. I'm surprised how many people have turned out so far, but the weather probably helped.
Hi Joanne. I'm not planning to watch the torch, although I believe it is passing through my nearest town tomorrow (quite a feat, being as I live in rural west Wales). I am however going to the Olympics: rowing, volleyball, basketball and hockey.
As you may have guessed, I like sport, although I originally applied for tickets because my 75-year-old mother-in-law asked me to help her with the procedure. Now the tickets will be delivered any day and I'm really excited.
Lucky you, to get tickets! Hope you have a fantastic time.
I find that I never ever regret making an effort to see a special event. But I do sometimes regret not doing so!

Go for it, Jo. It won't be coming to England again for a long time, so it's a once in a life time thing. We're going to go and have a peek when it comes to our nearby town - I think, though I haven't checked the times yet!

I was sorry to see that some of the torch bearers have been selling their torches on ebay...not on,in my humble opinion.
The cycling is going to be held near where we live,so we might go and have a look at that. :0)
What I don't understand is why they have one torch per person anyway! It seems very extravagant. Hope you enjoy the cycling. x
