Walnut, anybody?

In the belief that it's good to be open to new experiences, yesterday I ate a pickled walnut. Foul! No wonder my manager was trying to get rid of them. My tongue felt all shrivelled and wrinkly from the vinegar - like your fingers when you've soaked in the bath too long. Is anyone a fan of pickled walnuts? If so, please enlighten me about the attractions of these bloated, black, mushy blobs. Don't we do some strange things with food?

I've been working extra days lately, and am really looking forward to having next week off. There are two almost finished stories which I need to polish up and submit. I'm also in the process of shredding my notes from when I did my mental health training and it will be so nice to see the back of all that dusty old paperwork. And then of course there's the garden, which I'm desperate to start on again. It's cold today, but maybe next week will warm up. In the meantime, here are some snowdrops in the park behind our house.

The snowdrops are the most elegant thing on earth. How's your progress going?

Hello Laraine. Progress is OK, though it's frustrating not always having enough time to spend on things. Next week I am full of good intentions to catch up! x

Walnuts always remind me of tiny little brains. Pickled walnuts don't bear thinking about.

I've never tried pickled walnuts and after your experience I don't think I ever want to!
I love snowdrops.
Enjoy your week off - I hope the weather improves for it.

Frances, they do look like little brains when not pickled. Pickled they resemble nothing on earth!

Teresa, stick with the Twixes. Chocolate is preferable to anything pickled.

I love walnuts, but I have always felt frightened of the pickled ones. They look too black and inky and dead. I don't think I shall ever be brave enough to try one.

Good luck with the weather - we have snow forecast for Sunday!

I've never heard of pickled walnuts and now would very much like to try some!!! I'll keep a look out for it in Waitrose tomorrow! LOL!!!

GOOD LUCK with your stories and submissions!!!

Awww lovely snowdrops. So so so delicate. I do hope Spring is now well and truly here, albeit in very small doses!! Take care

Lovely snowdrops! I love walnuts but have never seen or tasted the pickled kind - and have no desire to do so now. Hope you get everything done next week.

I think you're supposed to cook with them. But I like the ordinary ones. In fact I have a handful with my packed lunch today.

Joanna, I hope the snow misses you. The forecast here is quite promising for next week.

Kitty - be warned, there is nothing nutty about the taste! (I'd go for a Walnut Whip instead).

Rosemary, normally I love walnuts too - just not this sort!

AJ, I am now wondering what you'd cook with pickled walnuts. My manager said she'd put some in a salad but she wasn't impressed.

Oh no - I don't like the sound of that pickled walnut.

And I agree with Frances, walnuts do look like brains.

Enjoy your week off.

I agree about picked walnuts; they are vile. But there is something worse! Pickled eggs.
I'd rather eat pickled snowdrops!
I can't bring myself to throw away all the dusty old paperwork from my Open University days despite requests from Mrs Bazza. I suppose it should go in the loft. Have a great weekend!

Thanks Suzanne.

Bazza I haven't tried a pickled egg, but now I may have to do so in the interests of research. To shred or not to shred is always a dilemma, but I just couldn't stand to look at all those folders any more.

oh, I'm so hungry for spring! No signs of life yet here. I'm trying to get as much writing in while the weather is cold, because once it warms up it'll be harder for me to stay focused!

I love pickles, but pickled walnuts, eggs, and hog's feet......not so much! You already have snowdrops? I'm so jealous......I'm also feeling a bit envious that you slashed thru paper piles. perhaps, I should consider that before the snowdrops pop up, and spring brings outdoor distractions!

I've been so lucky with the weather this week, lots of dry, sunny days. Never mind the snowdrops, the daffodils are now getting ready to burst into flower. I haven't written a word this week, but oh it's just grand to be out in the garden again!
