Reaping what we sow

In spring I pushed sweet peas into the damp earth and fed them with bright adjectives. I layered a stem of nouns to root among the mints, dotting an odd gerund below the lavender. Rain spattered them with pronouns. Squirrels buried verbs. There were some adverbs from last year's cuttings, but magpies stole them, stealthily.

Now I dig for stories, as the dog sniffs out windfalls. Our garden feeds us, always.

Thanks Susan and AJ. Yes my garden is definitely a haven and I miss it if I can't get out there and do anything for a while.

Absolutely beautiful. It conjures up a perfect picture.
It is especially apt for me, because I have started taking an interest in our garden for the first time in years! One of our daughters and her fiancé are trying to make it pretty and useful. He has even built a chicken coop and we are going to buy some chickens today!
Enjoy your summer, Joanne, and may your garden continue to inspire and delight you.

Thank you Rachna.

I am glad you are venturing into the garden Joanna. Hope you and the chickens get along well.

Sometimes though, the rabbits chew holes in my prose.

Ha ha, thanks Laraine, I can blame them in future for the ragged parts of my stories!
