For Anne Tyler fans...

A rare interview here. You can listen to the full version (after a short advert!) or read the summary. You can also read an extract from her new novel 'The Beginner's Goodbye' and look at photos of places in Baltimore that relate to her novels. I devour anything by Anne Tyler and can't wait to read her latest book.

Thank you so much for posting this - Anne Tyler is one of my favourite authors and this is such a lovely interview. And doesn't The Beginner's Goodbye sound good? x

It's nice to hear her voice isn't it Teresa?

Thank you, thank you, thank you! I adore Anne Tyler. She's one of the few authors whose entire works I've felt compelled to read after reading just one book! (Toni Morrison, Margaret Atwood, Thomas Hardy and Alice Munro are the others). :-)

Me too Hayley. Anne Tyler is such a wise writer. I also love Alice Munro.

Thansk so much for that, Joanne. She's one of my top favourites, too, and I've just finished The Begninner's Goodbye (lovely but not quite one of her best. I'd love to know what others think).

PS Haven't we all got good taste!

Oh now I'm jealous that you read it already! I have to find a copy asap.

I ADORE the Accidental Tourist but never really know the author or much about her - which I really like! I think that's where I have conflict with all this social networking - I get to know authors first before their books when I really in all honesty would much rather discover the book before the author or not really know of the author - it doesn't matter to me what colour or type of shoes the author likes so long as the book/body of work moves me! :-)

Take care
x

Really interesting interview, Jo - thank you too - and I'm definitely going to look out for 'The Beginner's Road' too.

Old Kitty, that is a very good point. I find it refreshing that writers such as Anne Tyler aren't constantly tweeting about their every movement!

Hey, Biddy! And welcome to the blog.

Hi Rosalie, thanks for dropping by.

Thanks for posting that, Joanne. Love the sound of that new book, but didn't realise she'd written so many!

joanne fox said...

Yes, quite prolific, Rosemary, albeit over a lengthy period.

I don't know Anne Tyler's work but I do know Baltimore!
It seems to have appeal to female readers (coming to think of it, yours is really a girlie blog isn't it? Help, what am I doing here? Let me out!)
Only kidding of course, I enjoy what you write!

Thank you so much, Joanne. I love Anne Tyler. I read The Tin Can Tree recently and was so absorbed by it. She really draws the reader right in and I can never work out how she does it!
I shall enjoy listening to this very much - just the break from writing I need!

Diane, lucky you - because you have the pleasure of discovering her for yourself.

Bazza, look out for my forthcoming post on welding and beer. How do you get that link to your blog on the bottom of your comments, by the way?

Joanna, I'm sure you'll love the interview!

I haven't read Ann Taylor - can't think why not.

bazza said...

Hmmm....the beer might appeal but I'm not really a welding kind of guy!

joanne fox said...

Patsy, do give her a whirl!

Bazza - neither am I!
